Department of Statistics

In 1970, with the creation of the Department of Mathematics (DMA) at the Center for Exact Sciences (CCE), part of its teaching staff was responsible for subjects in the area of Statistics. In 1988, through Resolution nº 019/88-COU, the Department of Statistics (DES) from the State University of Maringá (UEM) is separated from the DMA.

In 1999, by Resolution No. 162/99-CEP, the first pedagogical project for the Undergraduate Course in Statistics – Bachelor's Qualification, at DES, was approved. The course was recognized and revalidated in 2011.

For many years, DES and DMA shared the same building (Block F67) in their functions, until in 2012 (9/2/2012), the Statistics Department definitively gained its Block, E90.

In the collegiate structure of UEM, the Department of Statistics has been responsible for offering subjects, in the area of its competence, for more than 45 undergraduate courses in addition to courses Stricto Sensu and Lato Sensu of the university.

The importance of DES in different contexts lies in its direct and/or indirect role in the development of various teaching, research and extension activities, in addition to the direct responsibility of the undergraduate course in Statistic and the Postgraduate Program (Master's) in Biostatistics (PBE), started in 2013.
